Under Armour and Bryce Harper will officially release Harpers second signature cleat, the Harper 2, in Miami at the 2017 All-Star Game. To celebrate the 24-year old phenoms fifth All-Star selection, Under Armour created the Miami Bryce colorway, an ode to the hit 80s TV show Miami Vice, starring Don Johnson. The Miami Bryce Harper 2 cleat is now available at UA.com.
The saucy limited edition Harper 2 would have made Don Johnsons Vice character, Sonny Crockett proud with its bold and beautiful pastel pink and blue. Just like Crocketts iconic Italian sport coats, the whites in the plate and upper complete this show-stopping cleat. WPW sat down with Dave Stakel, Under Armours Director of Cleated Footwear, to get the skinny on this stunner.
Stakel took us through the birth of the Harper 2 cleat, which features the first true hybrid plate from Under Armour, a feature weve wished for since 2013 when Bryce first donned a front-metal, back-TPU Spine plate.
Henry Davis Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates surprised many by passing on two highly regarded prep prospects and Vanderbilt right-hander Jack Leiter to take right-handed-hitting catcher Henry Davis out of Louisville with the No. 1 pick in 2021. Its too early to tell whether that was the right move, as Davis has shown flashes of power but has struggled with strikeouts and staying on the field. He reached Double-A before the halfway point of his first full season and was named to this years Futures Game, but on Friday Davis was placed on the injured list with a wrist injury. After hitting .341 in 22 games at High-A, Davis struggled in Double-A before the injury. Hes batting .274/.397/.531 in 49 career minor league games and is ranked as the games No. 44 prospect, according to Baseball America.

Bryce Harper has lived up to the hype. The left-handed slugger famously left high school after his sophomore year to become draft-eligible as a 17-year-old, and Harper was an easy choice for the Washington Nationals that season and signed a $6.25 million signing bonus. He made his MLB debut in April 2012 and helped the Nats reach the postseason for the first time while winning National League Rookie of the Year. Harper had one of the best seasons in MLB history in 2015 at age 23 and unanimously won the NL MVP award after slashing .330/.460/.649 with 42 home runs and 124 walks with a 1.109 OPS. The six-time All-Star and 2018 Home Run Derby champ became a free agent after his age-25 season and signed a 13-year, $330 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, the richest contract in the history of North American sports at the time. Harper, 29, who won his second NL MVP award in 2021 with the Phillies, has a career slash line of .281/.391/.528 with a .919 OPS and 282 home runs. While hes currently on the injured list, Harper is of the elite players in baseball and is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Major League Baseball teams head into the final months of the regular season struggling to fill the stands now, even without pandemic-related attendance restrictions.
MILWAUKEE Blame it on lingering effects of the pandemic, resentment over the lockout or economic fears.
Major League Baseball is struggling to fill the stands at pre-COVID levels as the sport heads into the last 2 1/2 months of its first season since 2019 without capacity restrictions.
MLB reached the All-Star break with an average attendance of 26,409. That represents a drop of 5.4% from the All-Star break of 2019 which was 10 days earlier than this year.
League officials remain encouraged and point to the recovery.
We have come back to between 94-95% of where we were prior to the pandemic, MLB chief revenue officer Noah Garden said. So we feel really good about the progress we have made on the attendance side rebounding strongly from a situation that threatened the very core of how we operate as an industry.

New Bryce Harper Cleat Takes Inspiration From Basketball Soccer Lacrosse

Bryce Harper is on a self-declared journey to make baseball fun again. Part of that process involves making his gear fun.
Harper, who appeared in his fifth All-Star Game this week — at 24 — came armed with a new toy. Under Armour released the Harper 2, Harper’s second signature cleat with the brand, at noon this past Monday, July 10.
Harper tells ThePostGame he had “free rein” on the Harper 2 and looked for ideas from a variety of sports outside baseball.
“I looked at a lot of their basketball shoes, a lot of their soccer stuff, a lot of their lacrosse stuff, as well, and just tried to get a good vibe in what I wanted to do. I took a lot of feedback from what kids wanted also — high school, college, pro.
“Soccer, having that stability, having that sleek look, a lot of the cleats you see there are super lightweight, which I like. I’m just trying to have that feel of you’re not really wearing anything, pretty much.”
The first Harper 2 colorway backs up Harper’s point about looking sleek. The Nationals star unveiled the “Miami Bryce,” while introducing the cleat at All-Star Game FanFest Monday morning on an Under Armour panel with Heidi Watney of MLB Network. The pink and teal colorway, which also includes palm trees, brought flash to All-Star week.
As for the engineering of the shoe, Harper is following a modern scientific theory: Metal isn’t always better.
According to Under Armour, this is technically a 3-3-4 hybrid cleat plate formation.
Best Baseball Cleats For Youth

Brady Aiken Houston Astros
Yes, the Houston Astros were bad enough back then to have the No. 1 pick three consecutive years. And yes, in 2014 they took a player who is one of three in history to be selected first overall and not reach the big leagues not yet, at least. Left-hander Brady Aiken was considered the top prospect heading into the draft and after it appeared the two sides had agreed to a $6.5 million signing bonus, the offer was reduced to $5 million after a physical revealed a problem with the ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching arm. Aiken never signed, becoming the first No. 1 pick not to do so since Tim Belcher in 1983. The Astros, in hindsight, were correct about the physical Aiken had Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery in March 2015. The Cleveland Indians took Aiken with the No. 17 pick in 2015 despite the issue, but he struggled on the mound and in 2019 took time away from the game. Cleveland released Aiken in October 2021 he was only 25 and he remains a free agent. Hes among the biggest busts in baseball history, and certainly in the last 15 drafts.

David Price, a heralded left-handed pitching prospect out of Vanderbilt, received $8.5 million guaranteed, including a $5.6 million signing bonus, before quickly rising through the minor league ranks and helping the Tampa Bay Rays reach the World Series in 2008.
