Junior quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, who is looking to improve to 16-4 as a starter, will be attempting to throw for 300 yards in consecutive games for the second time in his career. Last week, he completed 26 of 41 passes for 371 yards and five touchdowns against Wake Forest. He has nine touchdown passes over the past three weeks. For the year, Uiagalelei has thrown for 1,033 yards and 10 touchdowns against one interception.

Defensively, the Tigers are led by junior linebacker Trenton Simpson. Simpson leads Clemson with 27 tackles, including 17 solo. He has at least eight tackles in three different games, and has one pass breakup and one forced fumble. For his career, he has 120 tackles, including 75 solo, with three pass breakups, 10 sacks and two forced fumbles.

RALEIGH, N.C. — NC State vs. Clemson has been flexed by the ACC for a six-day hold, until following the conclusion of Week 4 games. The ACC will announce the network and start time for the Wolfpack’s Week 5 matchup at Clemson late Saturday night after the Pack takes on UConn and the Tigers travel to Wake Forest.

Along with State vs. Clemson, the other games held until after Week 4’s contests were Wake Forest at Florida State, Georgia Tech at Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech at North Carolina.

Meanwhile, the Wolfpack has a chance to head into the game as a Top 10 team if the cards fall correctly this coming weekend. Currently at No. 12 in the AP Poll, several teams ahead of the Pack like Tennessee , Arkansas , Oklahoma State , USC all have difficult matchups, which could open the door for a 4-0 Wolfpack team to enter the mix.

No. 5 Clemson hosts No. 10 NC State on Saturday night under the lights.

The Wolfpack and Tigers are set for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on ABC in a key divisional clash.

NC State came out on top, 27-21, in double overtime last year in Raleigh, and they bring back a number of players from that group, including 18 upperclassmen starters or co-starters on offense and defense.

The main questions for Clemson will be on defense, where the Tigers will hope to have three players on the depth chart back this week who missed the weekend in Winston-Salem plus defensive tackle Tré Williams and defensive end Xavier Thomas .

Redshirt junior quarterback Devin Leary has been a big part of the Wolfpack’s success. Over the past two seasons, he has posted a 16-3 record as N.C. State’s starting quarterback. The Textile Bowl and continued control of ACC Atlantic Division destiny will be at stake in front of the eyes of the nation on Saturday, Oct. 1 when the No. 5 Clemson Tigers host the No. 10 NC State Wolfpack on ABC’s Saturday Night Football. Kickoff at Memorial Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

Saturday’s game will be the first in the series to feature both teams in the AP Top 10. The Tigers and Wolfpack have previously met five times with both teams ranked in the AP Top 25, including Clemson wins in 1991, 2017 and 2018 and NC State victories in 1986 and 1992. The lower-ranked team took each of the first three meetings until higher-ranked Clemson squads earned wins in 2017 and 2018.

Clemson will look to stay ahead of the pack in the ACCs Atlantic Division on Saturday when NC State visits Memorial Stadium for a top-10 showdown. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.. The game will be televised by ESPN.

Clemsons defense vs. NC States offense: Clemsons resistance against the run has been about as expected considering the wave of talent the Tigers have along their defensive front.

The pass defense? Not so much.

Clemsons issues on the back end continued in a major way last week against Sam Hartman and the rest of Wake Forests offense. After yielding 337 passing yards on just 20 completions, the Tigers rank 104th nationally against the pass.

Yet an issue NC States offense has had is pushing the ball down the field through the air, so there are questions as to whether or not the Wolfpack are equipped to follow other teams blueprint of exploiting Clemsons young secondary. All-American left tackle Ikem Ekwonu is gone. So is star receiver Emeka Emezie. As a result, veteran quarterback Devin Leary is throwing for just 222.5 yards a game, and the Wolfpack are averaging just 7 yards per pass attempt.

And get this: NC States lack of explosiveness through the air has come despite only playing one Power Five opponent to this point.

No 5 Clemson Tops No 10 Nc State 30

CLEMSON, S.C. DJ Uiagalelei played well as he has all season to power No. 5 Clemson’s offense. The Tigers’ defense finally looked like the stellar group it was projected to be.

The result was Clemson’s most complete game of the season: a 30-20 win over 10th-ranked North Carolina State on Saturday night.

”That was a great thing to see on both sides of the ball,” fifth-year defensive end K.J. Henry said.

Uiagalelei ran for two touchdowns and threw for a third as Clemson beat the Wolfpack for the ninth time in 10 seasons.

The Tigers won their ACC-record tying 37th straight at home, their 11th in row overall and a clear path back to league championship game they won annually from 2015 through 2020.

Clemson followed up its 51-45 overtime victory at No. 22 Wake Forest last week by shutting down North Carolina State in the second half to hold division tiebreakers over the two teams many figured would be the most likely to knock the Tigers out of title contention for a second straight year.

Instead, Clemson once more looked like the class of the league.

”I thought we did a great job tonight,” Uiagalelei said. ”I thought we did a great job in execution, a great job taking what the defense gave us.”

When Clemson stuffed Leary with a pair of sacks to start the third quarter, Uiagalelei cashed in again with a 7-yard pass to tight end Jake Briningstool for a 20-10 lead.

”I thought DJ was in total command of what we were doing,” Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said.
