Notable Games Aired On Sunday Night Baseball
2000s
On May 28, 2000, Pedro Martínez and Roger Clemens faced off in an epic pitchers’ duel at Yankee Stadium. Both pitchers threw complete games and combined for 22 strikeouts, 13 for Clemens, 9 for Martinez. The game was scoreless until Trot Nixon hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning. Martinez then got the final three outs in the bottom of the inning to secure the victory.
ESPN was on hand for the Cleveland Indians‘ historic comeback against the Seattle Mariners on August 5, 2001. The Indians trailed 142 after six innings, but scored twelve runs in the final three innings before winning in the bottom of the eleventh, 1514. The twelve-run comeback tied the Major League record for largest deficit overcome in a game.
On September 2, 2001, Mike Mussina of the New York Yankees came within one strike of a perfect game against the Boston Red Sox. The effort was broken up on a single by Carl Everett, with Mussina settling for a one-hitter. The game itself was an exciting pitchers’ duel, with the Red Sox’ David Cone also shutting out the Yankees for eight innings, before allowing an RBI double by Enrique Wilson in the ninth. It was the only scoring of the Yankees’ 10 win. Additionally, Cone was the most recent pitcher to record a perfect game having done so two years earlier as a Yankee against the Montreal Expos.
The 500th career save was broadcast on Sunday Night Baseball from Citi Field .

The new-look Texas Rangers will tee off the 2023 season on the big stage next spring.
The Rangers 6 p.m. CT game against the Philadelphia Phillies on April 2 in Arlington will be the first featured game on ESPNs Sunday Night Baseball next season. The game will be the finale of the Rangers season-opening three-game set against the Phillies, which begins March 30.
Texas will also be featured on Sunday Night Baseball when it travels to Houston to take on the Astros on April 16.

The Rangers have made a big splash for the second straight offseason, this time bolstering their pitching rotation. Texas signed Jacob deGrom, who is regarded as the best pitcher in baseball. The Rangers also signed Andrew Heaney and traded for Jake Odorizzi to further pad out their rotation. Texas also re-signed Martín Pérez, who joins fellow returning starter Jon Gray.
Combined with last years additions of Marcus Semien and Corey Seager, it appears the Rangers are primed for the national stage more than in recent seasons, beginning with Sunday Night Baseball on opening weekend.
How To Stream The Mlb Tv Schedule
Every nationally televised Major League Baseball game will be available via a streaming platform. YouTube TV, Sling and AT& T TV Now each carry ESPN, TBS, FS1 and MLB Network. Hulu has ESPN, TBS and FS1. Fubo has ESPN, FS1 and MLB Network, but not TBS. This season also includes, for the first time, exclusive games on streaming services Apple TV+ and Peacock.
So long as you subscribe to ESPN and FS1 via a streaming provider, you will be able to watch games through the ESPN and Fox Sports apps. For TBS, none of the current streaming options authenticates the WatchTBS app. YouTube TV and AT& T TV Now can authenticate the MLB.com At Bat app, but only on web devices.
If you purchase a product through one of the affiliate links in this post, Sports Media Watch may receive a commission.

Matt Borelli
ESPN announced it has picked up three more games for its Sunday Night Baseball schedule for the 2022 regular season, including two matchups that include the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The first is a homecoming for Freddie Freeman as the Dodgers travel to Truist Park to take on his former Atlanta Braves team later this month. The series finale on Sunday, June 26, now will be aired on ESPN. First pitch was changed to 4:05 p.m. PT.
The Dodgers previously took two of three from the Braves this season during their series at Dodger Stadium from April 18-20.
L.A. will again be featured on Sunday Night Baseball on Sept. 4, when they face the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.
The Dodgers are 2-1 against the Padres this season, with 16 more matchups still to come. The Sunday Night Baseball broadcast could be pivotal in the National League West standings as the rivals are currently separated by just 2.5 games.
ESPN also will carry a game between the Houston Astros and Chicago White Sox on Sunday, June 19. As always, play-by-play man Karl Ravech, analysts Eduardo Perez and World Series Champion David Cone, and MLB insider Buster Olney will be on the call.
The Sunday Night Baseball franchise is in its 33rd season as the exclusive MLB game of the week.

Ready And Waiting: Ops Team Anticipates Possible Scenarios
A broadcasting schedule of more than 20 nationally televised games isnt easy, but, when it comes to the postseason, the hardest part of the job is the waiting. Before all 12 seeds were locked up, ESPNs operations team needed to lay low and see how the bracket would shake it out.
After a tight race for the NL East, the New York Mets will host the San Diego Padres at Citi Field in the NL Wild Card game.
First, it was the fight between the Tampa Bay Rays, Seattle Mariners, and Toronto Blue Jays for the first Wild Card spot. Prior to the final week of the season, the three clubs were within five games of each other in the standings. The jostling for home-field advantage in the opening three-game series forced Horrell and his crew to devise different scenarios.
The 3,113 miles between Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, FL, and T-Mobile Park in Seattle makes for a very long trek. Torontos Rogers Centre is a bit closer to both T-Mobile Park and Tropicana Field 2,477 miles and 1,352 miles, respectively but requires crossing the U.S-Canada border and, thus, coordination with ESPNs mobile-unit provider, NEP Group.
We had to coordinate with them to protect any eventual outcome or scenario, says Horrell. We started securing trucks, so M-7 was going to cover Seattle and Supershooter 16 was going to cover Tampa Bay. Those wouldve been full REMI .
