Westhrift Promotes Sustainability And Equity
At the end of the pathway that curves down along the left side of the blue College of the Environment building at 284 High Street to the back door is WesThrift, where students can pick up a new outfit, a dorm accessory, or even a baseball cap at no cost.
Items are in very good condition and displayed as any thrift or consignment store would, on racks and shelves, sorted by dresses, blouses, shirts, sweaters, jeans/denim, fancier pants, purses, and hats. They also have shoes ranging from slippers to boots and dorm items.
According to Jen Kleindienst, Director of Sustainability, this project has been ten years in the making. The key to short and long-term success was to have a dedicated space, in this case, the basement of COE, and to have it exist beyond the semester or academic year it was started. Eco facilitators Annie Volker 24 and Debbra Goh 24 developed a solid plan for future students to maintain ownership and found an underutilized space that could permanently house it. Kleindienst described Volker and Goh as Two of the most organized and thoughtful students if anyone could do it, they would.
Donations are accepted anytime in the designated container outside the door or during shop hours on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 12:00 1:30 p.m. Normal consignment rules apply clothes should be in clean, wearable condition. No repairs or ironing will be done on-site, so you might mend any missing buttons before you drop them off.
The Majority Of The Population Is Families
Well, as mentioned earlier, this area is perfect for families with kids. So, this city may not be a great option for you if you are still single and living alone. You will feel like an outsider at times, and you will also feel uncomfortable participating in social gathering events that are held exclusively for families with kids. This city is primarily for well-settled families with kids and one working parent. So, if you are still a bachelor, this suburb is not suitable for you.

Retro Commercial Of The Week
This commercial comes from 1985, when the Phillies launched a Follow Us marketing campaign. The basis of the campaign was that the Phillies had a lot of young, fast players, and would therefore steal a lot of bases and be exciting to watch.
The 1985 Phillies didnt turn out to be all that exciting , but they did give us this enjoyable commercial featuring Richie Ashburn, Juan Samuel, Larry Andersen, and another player who I cant identify.
A few comments:
- I appreciate the realism of the commercial. I dont think Ive ever played a game of Trivial Pursuit where at least one person didnt get so upset by an answer on the card that they walked away from the table.
- Im a sucker for a good jheri curl, and Juan Samuel certainly delivers.
- According to the videos comments on YouTube, they made several versions of the commercial, and would swap out the name of the fastest player based on the upcoming opponent.
- Samuel reportedly wasnt even the fastest player on the Phillies, so Im not sure why hes so upset.
- We close with a promo by Garry Maddox for free player photo cards. Maddox looks very uncomfortable in front of the camera.
Close Proximity To Toronto
The suburb is in proximity to Toronto, one of the major metropolitan hubs of Canada. The city is also close to other metropolitan hubs, such as Vaughan and Markham. This offers ample professional opportunities to the residents, as they can drive up to their respective offices and make it back home without sacrificing hours in their commute. The proximity to the booming economies of Canada also offers a stabilized economic environment to Richmond Hill itself.

Update On The Hot Pants Patrol

Last week, I asked about the girl in the 1979 commercial, and a reader came through for me! Reader Mark Parsons explained that the Phillies used to employ a cadre of women named the Hot Pants Patrol.
According to Mark:
Back in the 1970s, the Vet had in addition to ushers, ball girls, etc. a group of women in their twenties patrolling through the stands wearing bright red shorts and tops. They would take drink and food orders and walk around the stadium. Sort of like putting cheerleaders into the stands to mingle with the fans. You can probably imagine what they had to put up with.
The Phillies recruited their Hot Pants Patrol by asking applicants to, and I quote, wear their shortest skirt and tighest blouse to the interview.
