The Major League Baseball All-Star Game, also known as the “Midsummer Classic“, is an annual professional baseball game sanctioned by Major League Baseball and contested between the all-stars from the American League and National League . Starting fielders are selected by fans, pitchers are selected by managers, and reserves are selected by players and managers.
The game is usually played on the second or third Tuesday in July, and is meant to mark the symbolic halfway point of the MLB season . Both leagues share an All-Star break, with no regular-season games scheduled from the day before through two days after the All-Star Game, with the exception of a single Thursday night game starting in the 2018 season. Some additional events and festivities associated with the game take place each year close to and during this break in the regular season.
No official MLB All-Star Games were held in 1945 and 2020, and no official selection of players took place, due to World War II travel restrictions and the COVID-19 pandemic, respectively. Two All-Star Games were held each season from 1959 to 1962. The most recent All-Star Game was held on July 19, 2022, at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, home of the NL’s Los Angeles Dodgers.
We Need An Answer Here Liam
The main question as Liam Hendriks takes over in the eighth is whether his cheesesteaks are covered in hot sauce AND fries, or if they’re covered in hot sauce and the fries are on the side.
The only truly important thing I learned at All-Star Media Day is that Liam Hendriks eats a Philly cheesesteak covered in hot sauce and fries before every home game.

Why You Should Back The National League

The crowd will have plenty to cheer about as three current Dodgers and one former Los Angeles fan favorite are in the starting lineup for the NL. Former AL MVP and batting champion Mookie Betts is starting in center field and batting second, shortstop Trea Turner – who won the NL batting crown last year – hits fifth and former Dodger Joc Pederson of the San Francisco Giants is eighth in the lineup and playing left field. Betts has belted 20 home runs, Turner is fifth in the NL with a .306 average and fourth with 68 RBIs and Pederson leads the Giants with 17 blasts.
Kershaw, who is one of three members of the Dodgers’ starting rotation on the roster, has posted a 7-2 record and 2.13 ERA while flirting with a perfect game twice – including in his last outing on Friday. The NL team also includes Paul Goldschmidt of the St. Louis Cardinals, who leads the league with a .330 batting average and ranks second with 70 RBIs.

Ken Rosenthal Provides An Update On Aaron Judge’s Contract Extension
“I’m not here to tell you that I knew he was going to be the player he is now,” Hardin admitted. “But I knew he’d have a chance at the next level. And if you get a chance, that’s half the battle. And I knew he’d have that chance.”
“I’ve been around a lot let me tell you a lot of kids, and he was one of the best to deal with. I never, ever had a problem with him or anything that he did.”
Thats a sentiment Judges former teammates echoed. While few kept in touch with the All-Star slugger as he journeyed up the ladder, all remembered him as a good teammate and as a friendly and kind-hearted person.
“The first impression, the main impression that still sticks with me to this day,” Cederquist said, “is how much of a stand-up guy he was. How humble he was. He actually asked questions to people and wanted to get to know his teammates. You had this unbelievably huge specimen who was just so soft-spoken and so nice and kind.”

Judges time in Alaska isnt a story about how he found himself as a baseball player deep in the wilderness, allowing him to take a huge developmental leap, even if we wish it were.
Before his summer with the Glacier Pilots, Judge hit four homers. The season after, he hit five. There was no bear wrestling, no epic treks across the frozen tundra, no backwoods salmon-fishing trip that turned him from a boy to a man. Really, it was a bunch of late-night baseball games played under a lingering sun.
“It really was such a beautiful place.”

Why Does A Seller Use A Reserve Price
In a Reserve Price auction, the seller starts the auction at a value below the lowest price at which s/he is willing to sell to capture the bidder interest. This way, the bidders are not forced to bid at fair market value from the start of the auction. Also, many sellers prefer Reserve Price auctions when they are not sure of the market value of an item, and want to find an audience by enticing multiple bidders’ interest.
The American League Has Won The Last Eight Asgs Can The Nl Break The Streak At Dodger Stadium
The 2022 Major League Baseball All-Star Game is set for Tuesday night, as the sport’s best and brightest get together at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The All-Star Game concludes a hectic four-day stretch that featured the Futures Game on Saturday, the first 80 picks of the 2022 MLB Draft on Sunday and the Home Run Derby on Monday. This is the 92nd edition of the Midsummer Classic, and the first at Dodger Stadium since 1980.
The American League has dominated the All-Star Game in recent years. They’ve won the last eight, 15 of the last 18 and 20 of the last 24 All-Star Games. That said, the all-time series is only 46-43-2 in favor of the Junior Circuit.

For the first time since 1980, Dodger Stadium played host to the MLB All-Star Game. Major League Baseballs biggest stars converged on Chavez Ravine on July 18 for the MLB Home Run Derby before playing in the annual Midsummer Classic on July 19.
The game, which was originally scheduled for 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic forced its postponement, was also a celebration of Dodger Stadiums 60th anniversary.
Heres everything you need to know about the 2022 MLB All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium.
Giancarlo Stanton Byron Buxton On Deep All
Here comes the boom
Enter Tony Gonsolin to pitch the top of the fourth.
Chaos ensued. Stanton tattooed a ball almost out of the park, and Buxton turned on another to give the AL a 3-2 lead following back-to-back homers.
That’s not exactly the home-field advantage Gonsolin was hoping for in his first All-Star appearance.

Clay Holmes Gets His All
When Clay Holmes was an 8-year-old kid in Slocomb, Ala. , he pitched and played third base for a youth baseball team called the Yankees. They were good, these young Yankees, and Holmes was the tallest and best of the bunch. His father, Wendell, was the teams coach. On a whim one day, Wendell mailed a letter to Yankee Stadium asking if the Yankees would donate any souvenirs to the boys on his team pencils, water bottles, anything with a Yankees logo on it. It would make their day, he wrote.
Before long, two boxes appeared on the doorstep of the Holmes home. Inside were Yankees caps with World Series patches stitched into the sides. Wendell handed them out to the players. They went wild, he recalled, beaming.
Today, Wendell still has one of those caps at home in Slocomb, and his son is still pitching for the Yankees. Holmes, the surprise All-Star closer, took the ball in the eighth inning of the American Leagues 3-2 win Tuesday night and pumped power sinkers until, two outs later, his job was done. Back home, a small town buzzed. Sitting in the second deck behind home plate at Dodger Stadium were his parents, his brothers, Trey and Jacob, and their wives.
Its a dream come true, his mother, Teresa, said.
Tom Rinaldi On ‘wesley’ His New Investigative Podcast

Heads-up
When Ryan Helsley is throwing gas, any ball off the bat is coming at you hard. Just ask Jake Cronenworth, whose face narrowly missed meeting the ball.
Helsley held the AL scoreless, and the score remained 3-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth.
Waterworks
Hurry, grab a tissue before watching a young fan tell Kershaw about his late grandfather, who wanted to meet the Dodgers’ starter but never did.
What would you say?
If someone had told Jose Trevino at the beginning of the season that he would be an All-Star, he would’ve been almost speechless.
“Exactly,” he said sarcastically. “Right.”
He ripped a single to right but was left stranded in the top of the seventh.
Mini-jam
Nestor Cortes and Jose Trevino were mic’d up for the bottom of the sixth inning. Cortes got into some trouble walking Austin Riley and hitting Travis d’Arnaud with a pitch, but he worked out of it with a strikeout of Garrett Cooper.
Watch and listen as the Yankees battery talks through Riley’s at-bat.
Stand Up to cancer
Before Arizona’sJoe Mantiply retired the AL on nine pitches, Major League Baseball and the vocal ensemble of Los Angeles County High School of the Arts showed their support of everyone who has been touched by cancer.
Big Papi in the house
Is David Ortiz ready for a comeback? It sounded like AL manager Dusty Baker was saving the Hall of Famer for the ninth inning, but only if the AL needed help. After all, late-inning heroics are kind of his thing.
High-fives for a legend

History Of Player Selection Methods
In 1933 and 1934, the fans selected the 18 starters for game and the managers chose the rest of the teams players. From 1935 through 1944 and in 1946, the manager of each All-Star squad selected the entire team in 1945, no MLB All-Star Game was held and no All-Stars were officially named.
In 1947, fans were given the opportunity to vote on the eight starting position players, but in 1957, fans of the Cincinnati Reds stuffed the ballot box , and elected a Red to every position except first base. Commissioner Ford Frick stepped in and removed two Reds from the lineup. As a response to this unfairness, fan voting was discontinued players, coaches, and managers were given the sole authority to elect starting position players, for the next dozen years.
Between the lack of fan input and over-exposure due to the double All-Star games in 1959â1962, interest in the game was thought to be waning. As part of the rise of the MLB Promotion Corporation’s attempts to modernize marketing of baseball, fan balloting for the starting eight was restored for the 1970 game.
Sometime in the 1960s, the distinction between left-fielder, center-fielder, and right-fielder was dropped, and it was provided that the top 3 vote-getters in the outfield category would start regardless of position. Oft-heard remarks prior to this time included ones such as “If you had Clemente, you couldn’t have Aaron“, and so on.

Why You Should Back The American League
Kershaw may only see one inning of work, but he may not have an easy time of it as each of the first six batters in the AL lineup have hit at least 19 home runs this season. Leadoff hitter Shohei Ohtani of the Angels, who was both the starting pitcher and designated hitter en route to the All-Star Game MVP last year, has gone deep 19 times in 2022 while Yankees slugger Aaron Judge leads the majors with 33 blasts. Rafael Devers of the Red Sox, who is hitting third, has belted 22 homers.
A first-time All-Star, McClanahan hopes to steer the AL in the direction of its 21st victory in 25 Midsummer Classics. The 25-year-old already has matched the total of 10 wins he posted as a rookie last year in just 18 starts and has lost just once since Apr. 30. McClanahan, who has allowed two earned runs or fewer in 13 consecutive outings, leads the majors in ERA and is tied for second with 147 strikeouts.
What Is A Straight Bid
A straight bid is a one-time amount, that represents the price you are committing to bid. The price that is entered as a straight bid can be any amount that is equal to, or greater than the current amount plus the minimum increment.
This amount will become the new current bid amount of the item .
If there is a maximum bid on the item, the greater of the straight bid and maximum bid will be the highest bid amount.
If a straight bid and a maximum bid are placed at the same value, the bid that is placed earlier will become the winning bid.

Blue Jays Discussing Possible Bid For 2027 All
Sportsnet welcomes you to the 2022 MLB All-Star Game, featuring five Toronto Blue Jays: Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Alejandro Kirk, Alek Manoah, Santiago Espinal, and Jordan Romano.
LOS ANGELES â The Toronto Blue Jays are talking to Major League Baseball about a possible bid to host the 2027 All-Star Game, after the Rogers Centre is through an upcoming renovation, according to two industry sources.
After taking place at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday, the Midsummer Classic shifts to Seattleâs T-Mobile Park in 2023, while the Philadelphia Phillies are due to host the 2026 game at Citizens Bank Park. The 2024 and 2025 games are also thought to be spoken for but have not been publicly awarded.
As part of the selection process, the Blue Jays must present a hosting plan to MLB with information on hotels, convention space and potential fan festival events, among other elements. Typically, the bids have some local government support.
An MLB representative declined to discuss future all-star games.
The Blue Jays have only hosted the event once, back in 1991 during the domeâs second full season, and are certainly due to stage another. That contest was a 4-2 American League win, with Hall of Fame shortstop Cal Ripken Jr. the gameâs MVP.
Festivities around the event have grown substantially since, with the Futures Game and draft now part of the week along with the home run derby, fan festival and game.
What Is Auto Bid Extend
The Auto Bid Extend feature ensures that bidders will always have a chance to challenge bids placed in the final seconds of an auction. When indicated on a listing page, if a bid is placed during the last 5 minutes of an auction, the auction will automatically extend for an additional 5 minutes from the time of the latest bid. The auction will close once all bidding activity has stopped for a period of 5 minutes.

What Is An Open Auction
In an Open Auction, buyers bid until the auction ends. The item is then sold to the highest bidder at the end of the auction period. There is no reserve price in an Open auction. The seller must sell the item to the highest bidder. Bidding can start as low as the Opening Value of the auction.
Once the auction closes, email notification providing contact information is sent to the buyer and seller automatically so that arrangements for payment and shipment of the item can be determined.
