Arenado hit a bases-clearing double in the ninth inning, providing enough offense for the Cardinals to get the win with their first lead of the game. The third baseman has been a bit sluggish at the plate in September, hitting .176 with four RBI, three runs scored and two doubles. The slump has him down to a .298/.360/.548 slash line with 28 home runs, 93 RBI, 67 runs scored, four stolen bases and 38 doubles through 130 contests.

Cardinals’ Lars Nootbaar: Day Off Saturday
Nootbaar isn’t starting Saturday against the Pirates, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Nootbaar has gone 0-for-22 with a run, an RBI, a walk and eight strikeouts over the last seven games and will head to the bench for the second time in the last three matchups. Brendan Donovan will take his place in right field and lead off.

O’Neill is back in the lineup after missing Thursday’s contest with the Nationals while nursing neck stiffness. The outfielder has produced a .200 average with a home run, four RBI, four runs scored and a stolen base over 20 at-bats in six games this month.

Mikolas yielded four runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings Friday, striking out eight and taking a loss against the Pirates.
Through the first four innings, the only damage against Mikolas was Ben Gamel’s solo shot in the second frame. The veteran righty then gave up three runs in the fifth, including Oneil Cruz’s two-run triple. Since coughing up 10 runs in Colorado on Aug. 9, Mikolas is 3-2 with a 3.15 ERA over his last six outings. On the year, he’s sporting a 3.42 ERA with a 135:33 K:BB through 29 starts. Mikolas is lined up to face the Reds at home next week.

The Cardinals are on the brink of clinching the NL Central Division title, and a pair of heads-up wins over second-place Milwaukee would essentially seal the deal. The Red Birds have yet to clinch a playoff berth but they would be the 3-seed in the NL playoffs if the season ended today.
Well, the season doesnt end today, so theres no point in mentioning that, now is there? All of the other outlets love mentioning those things, so I figured I would mention it too! Stuff like that never made sense to me, because its like saying its the 4th inning of the game, and if it ended now the team in the lead would win the game.
I am pointing toward this contests Milwaukee Brewers team total for a few reasons. First, let me get the nuts and bolts out of the way. Miles Mikolas is listed as the probable starter for St. Louis and Adrian Houser is expected to go for the Brew Crew .
Milwaukees team total is being offered at 3.5 with a 1.83 attached to the action, which is fair enough for me to make me think we can cash this ticket early. Through 31 starts this campaign, Mikolas has given up 24 home runs, and the last time he faced Milwaukee back in August he gave up one on that night as well. Cardinals Vs Dodgers Over/under Analysis
In three of the four games the Cardinals and Dodgers have played this season, the Over has hit in three of them. The total for tonights game is at 7.5 and has stayed at that number since it opened.
With Clayton Kershaw pitching for the Dodgers, there is a quick inclination to take the Under. I dont think he is the key here, however. Kershaw is going to toss another low-scoring outing if recent forms hold.

The Over is 5-1 in the last six for the Cardinals against a pitcher with a WHIP less than 1.15. For the Dodgers, the Over is 7-0 in their last seven against a team with a winning record and 4-1-1 in their last six of a Game 2 of a series.

The line at 1.83 for the Brewers Team Total of Over 3.5 was convincing enough for me to just go with my gut and expect the Brewers to score at home with the division on the line. The pressure is on St. Louis to secure the win on the road, so Milwaukee should be able to just go out and do what they do at home. St. Louis has been seen giving up 5 runs plenty of late, and I surmise that this will be another of those spots.
